In early 2018, Gary Gritness got asked by Parisian underground crew Sample Delivery to play a DJ set for a party they where throwing in a small, intimate club.

Of course, Gary's regular live show, playing keytar and singing electrofunk tunes couldn't fit in such a setting, but he had something else in mind.

Having turned down many DJ set requests over the years because of his simple joy of playing music live to an audience, and after a great talk with promoter Mehdy, Gary decided to challenge himself by offering a completely improvised, hardware live jam, to wich Mehdy agreed even though having heard nothing of it.

Humbled by such trust, Gary hunted the perfect analog yet minimal setup to create something he had in mind for years: a free flowing, risk-taking journey through many styles and sonics.

Contrary to his very precise compositions and sophisticated arrangements, this would be the perfect anthisesis: an in your face, no holds-barred, raw one-bar club shaking affair. No presets or prepared loops, just synths and drum kits, and just doin' it from the gut, in the moment: The Gritness was born.

Playing for the first time on a freezing February night, and recorded for archival purposes, this set turned out to be so honest and wide-ranging the decision was made upon listening to offer it as a limited tape release on Sample Delivery's own label out of loyalty and in reminder of a great premiere, even though Gary has released on heavy-rollers Hypercolour and Clone,

With nothing but word of mouth, The Gritness has since made waves and has performed major parisian nights like Rex Club, 75021 and Rinse's, and by the end of the year was already booked by international promoters.

Before official releases drop during 2019, here's a chance to hear the birth of The Gritness as it was first unleashed!
